127 Days until K-12 SUMMERFEST
Student Auditions at TheatreFest 2010
What are the TETA Auditions?
The Texas Educational Theatre Association, Inc. offers Texas theatre students an opportunity to audition for Colleges and Universities from Texas and other states during the annual TETA convention.
Students shall be able to demonstrate their acting, singing, design or technical theatre talent and experience during the two-day Audition sessions which shall be held at TETA's TheatreFest each year. (See CONVENTIONS for specific dates)
During the Auditions Call-Back Sessions, college and university representatives shall get an opportunity to visit with selected students in order to answer questions, discuss their programs, set up auditions at their individual institution, discuss scholarship and other financial aid opportunities, etc.
When are the TETA Auditions?
On the Friday of the TETA Convention, as part of TheatreFest, approximately 50 design and technical theatre students shall audition in the following categories: General Design/Tech Auditions; Founders' Scholarship for Design/Tech: High School Level; and Founders' Scholarship for Design/Tech: College/University Level.
On Saturday of the TETA Convention, as part of TheatreFest, approximately 100 acting students shall audition in the following categories: General Acting Auditions; Founders' Scholarship for Acting: High School Level; and Founders' Scholarship for Acting: College/University Level.
Who can participate in the TETA Auditions?
All Texas students, who are graduating high school seniors or a transferring college/university theatre student and who are intent on majoring in theatre, are eligible to participate in the TETA Auditions. Each school may submit one student in Acting & one student in Design/Technical Theatre and those students must have the recommendation of their theatre instructor.
TETA Institutional Member (I.M.) schools, which are in good standing, are eligible to submit up to three Acting candidates and up to three Design/Technical Theatre candidates.
Only TETA I.M. schools are able to submit candidates for the $2000 Founders' Scholarship in Acting and the $2000 Founders' Scholarship in Design/Tech respectively. They may submit only one student in each category for the Founders' Scholarship. (Note: Each I.M. school is allotted a total of three Acting students and three Design/Technical Theatre students, no matter what the combination is between the Founders' Scholarship categories and the General Audition categories. Example: if an I.M. school submits one candidate for the Founders' Scholarship in Acting and none for the Founders' Scholarship in Design/Tech, it can still only submit two additional candidates for the General Acting and three candidates for the General Design/Technical Theatre.
*Information on how a school can become a Texas Educational Theatre Association Institutional Member can be found on the TETA website. Institutional Membership cannot be achieved prior to this TheatreFest. Applications should be made now for implementation for next year.
How can teachers/sponsors help their students participate in the TETA Auditions?
First of all, teachers or administrators can help their students complete the 2010 Audition Application . A student wishing to participate in the TETA Auditions must submit the $20 Student Membership dues, a $20 application fee, the Student Code of Conduct Form (required for all HS applicants) and the 2010 Audition Application in the same envelope. [Students wishing to register for the entire convention may do so by including the convention registration form (see website) and including the additional fee.] All students MUST be recommended by their theatre director to submit an application for auditions.
Secondly, they can help students applying for Founders acquire the necessary transcript to complete the application process.
This 2010 Audition Application may be duplicated as necessary.
When is the deadline for application for the TETA Auditions?
All complete application packets must be postmarked by November 1 in order to be eligible for consideration. Incomplete applications shall not be considered.
Confirmation Suggestion: Paper clip a stamped postcard or envelope, addressed to the student applicant, in front of all materials if you want confirmation of receipt. (Note: Receipt of application does not guarantee an audition slot for the applicant.)
What happens after the deadline?
Once the deadline has passed, the Audition Co-ordinator shall begin filling the audition slots based on completed applications and postmark date. Applicants from Institutional Member schools shall receive priority in scheduling of all audition slots.
By December 1, each applicant shall be sent notification via email as to whether he/she has received an audition slot.
Selected applicants should then begin working on their audition materials. (See guidelines under each category for specific requirements.)
No substitution shall be permitted for a student who has received an audition slot, but is unable to attend the TETA Auditions.
Neither membership nor the application fee is refundable.
